Although he just recently emerged from a two-year hiatus, you’d be hard-pressed to find a bass music fan who doesn’t appreciate the versatility that is Paper Diamond. From his debut 2005 release of the iconic “Can We Go Up” with Mad Decent to the his ethereal Levitate LP with Pretty Lights Music in 2011, the Colorado-born artist has proved time and time again just how dynamic he really is. Today we welcome Paper Diamond back onto the scene with Holograms, an album years in the making that takes listeners on a sonic journey through sound.

Paper Diamond has kept the bass community at attention since he dropped “WORK 9000,” a ferocious, bass-laden single that ends this album on a triumphant note, in January. Anticipation only grew from there with the punchy “Downfalls” and the surprising moombahton heater “Bass Real Big,” with each singles’ distinct sound characterized by artwork the producer created himself.

These three tracks were just a small taste of the 11-track LP, and in it Paper Diamond pulls from the past to push his genre forward. Low, rumbling songs like “Wear Me Out,” with its haunting whispers and shifty percussion, stand side by side with album standouts like “Piece Of Mind,” a chilled out work that will take you on a ride through the rise and fall of its otherworldly progressions. The shimmering transition in “Hologram 02” leaps straight into the ominous, jaw-dropping “Yay.” Pieces like “Done Up” feat. Rarri channel hip-hop while “Lose My Mind” feat. JSTJR and Lafa Taylor goes moombahton once again. Subgenres of all kinds find their home in this project, fitting together in a way that only Paper Diamond could pull off. Holograms isn't just everything we expected from the dynamite producer — it’s everything and much, much more.
