LATEST VIDEOS GAMES
Occasionally, Sega holds Japanese Sega-nama livestreams to talk about what the company is up to or interview developers, usually related to the Yakuza series. Today, Sega's chief creative officer Toshihiro Nagoshi announced on the stream that the Yakuza studio is bringing something new to the table next month.
Nagoshi teased that the game would be something different from the studio, so it won't just be another reskin of Yakuza with another license over it. The idea, Nagoshi says, has been in various states of development for about three years and they're excited to show it off in September. The timing probably coincides with Tokyo Game Show next month, meaning the title is likely to be revealed at or ahead of the show on September 19.
The last new IP from the Yakuza studio was 2012's Binary Domain, a third-person shooter that ended up becoming quite narrative and character relationship-heavy. The game was a critical and sales disappointment for Sega and put a halt on original projects from the usually consistent studio.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 releases today on PlayStation 4. You can read our review of the game here.
