Michael Myers has returned to haunt Haddonfield once more, and with precisely three weeks to go until Halloween‘s arrival, today brings forth the first clip for David Gordon Green’s spooky sequel. And it’s a doozy.
Unsurprisingly, it places a laser focus on Michael Myers and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Cutris), the beating heart of this iconic horror series, who can be seen battening down the hatches in this creepy and deeply unsettling clip.
We begin with Laurie racing down the stairs to find that The Shape has already slaughtered a man named Ray (Karen’s partner, perhaps?). The camerawork is incredible, too, as it frames Myers as an imposing relentless force who’s able to vanish at a moment’s notice – only to reappear when we least expect it, thrusting his arms through the glass door in order to strangle Laurie and bring an end to his reign of terror.
Pay close attention and you’ll also notice that John Carpenter’s shrill, iconic soundtrack permeates every frame of Halloween‘s first clip – just imagine what it’ll be like when that same soundtrack is projected over theater sound systems in three weeks’ time.
Looking further afield, and it seems Blumhouse is open to the possibility of launching a follow-up to their Halloween sequel, though it’ll be some time yet before the Powers That Be detail their plans for Michael and Laurie’s next big-screen adventure. And that’s before we even factor the possible TV series into the equation…
Halloween rustles up a potent blast of nightmare fuel on October 19th, when box office analysts are predicting a huge, potentially record-breaking opening for the horror sequel. How big, you ask? Try $45 million. And there’s every chance that figure will continue to climb as D-day approaches.
