March 29, 2019 Tyler Barriss has pleaded guilty to 51 separate charges, and has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
In December 2017, 28-year-old Andrew Finch was shot and killed by police responding to a false report about a hostage situation at a home in Kansas. Tyler Barriss, 26, admitted to making the call, and has now been handed a 20-year prison sentence for his role in the shooting, in addition to other similar charges filed against him in California and the District of Columbia. This is believed to be the first death related to swatting, but it was not the only time that Tyler Barriss has faced charges for making false reports. As the Associated Press reports, Barriss pleaded guilty to a total of 51 federal charges. The two Call of Duty players whose dispute allegedly led to the call that caused Finch’s death are charged as co-conspirators, but that case is still ongoing after the two pleaded not guilty. Casey Viner reportedly plans to change his plea at a hearing on Wednesday, and Shane Gaskill’s trial will take place on April 23.from PCGamesN https://ift.tt/2CJMLh8
