Child’s Play is now just three weeks away from hitting theaters and Orion Pictures has released a new featurette for the upcoming horror remake that offers up a lot more footage we haven’t seen before. The two-minute promo also contains the three leads of the movie – not including Mark Hamill, who lent his voice to killer doll Chucky – discussing the process of making the film.

First up, Aubrey Plaza revealed why she wanted to be part of the project, explaining that it was all to do with the character of Karen Barclay. “I’m really excited about playing the role of Karen,” the Legion actress says in the video. “The idea of playing a young single mom was really appealing to me.”

Gabriel Bateman portrays Karen’s son, Andy, who’s gifted the unfortunately homicidal toy. In the clip, he opens up about how a shy, lonely kid like Andy initially connects with the smart doll.

“Andy is more mature than kids his age, I would say, and he has a hearing aid which makes him pretty insecure so he doesn’t really socialize much. And he gets really attached to Chucky because he’s really vulnerable.”

Rounding out the main cast is Brian Tyree Henry as Detective Mike Norris. As well as describing the cop as “loyal” and “trustworthy,” Henry made clear how much the opportunity to be part of this franchise means to him.

“This is Chucky. This is about Chucky… As soon as I saw this, I just jumped at it. I’ve never been more excited to be part of anything than Child’s Play.”

Alongside the featurette explaining what we can expect from the human characters, director Lars Klevberg recently teased that Chucky would be a more rounded villain than the traditional version of the killer, as voiced by Brad Dourif. Klevberg promised that the doll would be somewhat “sympathetic” as well and would have a “motivation” that’s different from the original. In fact, he even went so far as to call the movie a “Greek tragedy” for Chucky.

Color us intrigued to see Child’s Play when it comes slashing into cinemas on June 21st.
