14 years after the original movie arrived, Pixar and Disney are finally serving up The Incredibles 2, the long-awaited sequel to Brad Bird’s animated superhero classic.

To keep things fresh, the follow-up will swap the roles of Bob and Helen Parr from the first film. While Helen (Holly Hunter) gets to return to hero duty as Elastigirl, Bob (Craig T. Nelson) has to hang up his Mr. Incredible suit for a while and play house-husband – which mostly involves looking after his frighteningly-powered baby, Jack-Jack.

Now, to build anticipation ahead of release, Disney’s debuted a new trailer which reminds us, by replaying the final shot of The Incredibles, that the sequel will follow on directly from the cliffhanger ending of the first outing, with the attack on Metroville by the Underminer acting as the big opening set piece.

Old fan favourites will be back, too, including Samuel L. Jackson’s Frozone and fashion designer Edna Mode (memorably portrayed by Bird). As for the rest of the titular family, Sarah Vowell is again voicing teen daughter Violet Parr, while son Dash is now played by Huck Milner (replacing the original’s Spencer Fox).

Joining the cast are Better Call Saul‘s Bob Odenkirk and Catherine Keener, who will play Winston and Evelyn Deavor, a brother and sister duo who run a telecommunications company. Winston’s big idea is to use Elastigirl as the face of a campaign to get supers legalized again. But with the villain of the film still a secret, we heavily suspect Odenkirk and Keener’s characters have an ulterior motive in resurrecting Helen’s crime fighting career.

As our speculation suggests, the studios are doing a good job of keeping a lid on the twists and turns of the sequel. But from what we’ve gathered from the trailers released so far, it promises to be another fun-filled adventure for the whole family. Whether the pic will match up to its predecessor or not remains to be seen, but we’ll find out when The Incredibles 2 lands in cinemas on June 15th.
